Taking part in the Data Technician Skills Bootcamp has been a valuable and rewarding learning experience. Before starting the course, I had little knowledge of data analytics, so I knew I would be stepping outside my comfort zone. At the same time, I was excited to learn new technical skills that could help me change my career and move into the data field.
During the bootcamp, I learned how to use a range of industry tools, including Excel, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Python, and Microsoft Azure. Through practical exercises and projects, I gained experience in cleaning and analysing data, creating dashboards, writing SQL queries, and using Python to work with datasets. Building portfolio projects allowed me to apply what I had learned and see how these tools can be used to solve real business problems.
The journey was not always easy. Learning several new technologies in a relatively short period was challenging, and there were times when I felt overwhelmed, especially when working with Python or writing more complex SQL queries. However, I found that regular practice and working through real examples gradually improved my understanding. Each completed task gave me more confidence and motivated me to keep learning.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that practical experience is just as important as theory. Working with real datasets helped me understand not only how to use different tools but also why they are used. I also developed stronger problem-solving skills by learning to investigate data, identify patterns, and present findings in a clear and meaningful way. Creating dashboards in Power BI and Tableau was particularly enjoyable because it combined technical skills with visual storytelling.
Going forward, I plan to strengthen my SQL and Python skills through regular practice, build more portfolio projects using real-world datasets, and continue improving my dashboard design in Power BI and Tableau. I also want to expand my knowledge of Azure and keep learning about best practices in data analysis. My goal is to continue growing as a data professional and secure a junior role where I can apply my skills, gain industry experience, and keep learning from others.
